I'm Dr. X Li, a licensed clinical psychologist based in Davis, CA, offering evidence-based therapy for adults via telehealth across California.
"I hope to share this amazing perspective — not only to alleviate symptoms, but to fundamentally change the way you engage with yourself and the world, right here and now."
I'm traditionally trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and for much of my early career my practice was focused on integrative approaches. Through a decade of psychotherapy, supervision, training, and my own personal therapy and growth, I've evolved into a primarily ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) practitioner.
The concepts and interventions of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy resonate deeply with me in both my professional work and my own life. I'm continually astounded by what it provides for my clients and how it shapes, informs, enriches, and deepens my own experience.
As a second-generation immigrant and father of two, I bring a lived understanding of bicultural identity, the pressure of high expectations, and the complex emotions of parenting. These experiences shape how I show up for my clients, with genuine curiosity, cultural humility, and what I'd describe as an irreverent warmth.
My approach is transparent, collaborative, and tailored to you. What matters is what works — for you.
I explain my reasoning, share my perspective honestly, and invite you to push back. Therapy works best as a genuine collaboration.
Identity, background, and context matter deeply. I bring awareness of bicultural and immigrant experiences, and curiosity about yours.
I use approaches grounded in research, primarily ACT, while adapting to what actually serves each person I work with.
Real change happens here, in the present, not by rehashing the past or rehearsing the future.
The goal isn't to feel better. It's to live better, shaped by what matters most to you.
Therapy can be serious work without being solemn. I bring humor, directness, and genuine care to every session.

Beyond my work as a psychologist, I'm a father of two, which has been its own profound education in presence, patience, and imperfection. Parenting has deepened my understanding of what it means to show up fully for someone while navigating your own complexity.
As a second-generation immigrant, I live in the space between cultures, which comes with its own gifts and its own weight. That experience has made me a more curious, more humble, and I hope more useful therapist.
I believe that an appreciation for irreverent humor, even in dark times, always helps. If that sounds like you, we'll probably get along well.
Outside of work, you'll find me spending time with my family, cooking, travelling, playing games, watching sports, and generally just trying to have a good time.
